US foreign policy
Now that there’s finally a new president in house, I believe it is time the US made some major changes in their foreign policy. Firstly, I believe the US will need to spend a lot of time and resources on their relationship with Russia. Russia is currently convinced that the US missile shield is directed against them, and feel threatened. If Obama refuses to negotiate with Russia, there might be another Cuba crisis, therefore I think it would be wise of Obama to negotiate, and make sure that Russia does not act aggressively. Think it is time that the US gets rid of the bad blood they share with Russia, and starts acting more diplomatically. Also, the US should withdraw most of their troops from Iraq, but keep checkpoints and a small part of their troops to prevent the rise of a military coup d'état. I know that Obama already is advocating a conference that includes both Syria and Iran, to find an ultimate solution on the Iraq problem. I also expect massive changes in the US’s Cuba policy, as Obama has stated that he will meet with Castro, witch I think could end what has been looking like a Cuba boycott for the past decade. Additionally, Obama has already called for "unrestricted rights" on Cuban American travel, and money sent from America to family members. What I think is important about Obama’s stance on foreign policy, is wherever he will be an idealist or a realist. If he is realist, he will focus on getting things done during his term, instead of making plans that will deal with the problems after his term. The best thing for the US is probably if he is a mix of the two, especially if he is to be elected for a second term
